The Calling of the Christian Entrepreneur: The “Why?”
Why?
Such a small, but interesting word.
Why?
Why do you want to be an entrepreneur? In today’s world, where there’s talk of “Be a Christian millionaire” and “Millionaires for Christ”, is this really what God wants us to strive for?
Many want to know the “How:” of becoming a Christian entrepreneur, but we have to get the “Why?” right first! Is the “Why?” to become a Christian millionaire? After all, many quote Deuteronomy 8:18, “But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is He that giveth thee power to get wealth…” (emphasis mine), and yes, I believe that’s what He gives or wants to give us as Christian entrepreneurs.
But we often don’t hear and/or meditate on the last part of that verse: “…that he may establish His covenant which He swear unto thy fathers, as it is this day.” (emphasis mine)
This, I believe, is the main reason that God gives us the power to get wealth (and entrepreneurs, statistically, are wealthier than most people with jobs): to establish His covenant which He swore to our fathers. Who are our fathers? Our Biblical fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
Now what did he swear to them? He swore to them that He would make their “seed” (offspring) as numerous as the dust on the earth, as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. (Gen. 13:16;22:17).
The Apostle Paul said that since we are Christ’s, we are Abraham’s seed (Gal. 3:29). And God wants more seed, i.e., more people to come to Christ, because that’s what He promised to our Biblical fathers. And that’s the main reason why He wants you to have wealth: to help more people to come to Christ.
There are other “Why’s”, or what I would call “sub-Why’s”, and we should get them straight before or, if you’re already progressing as an entrepreneur, while we’re doing the “How”.
We’ll talk about them later, but what do you think? Do you think this should be the main “Why?” for Christian entrepreneurs?
