8 Reasons Why Most Christians Are Financially Broke Series - Part 5
By Bruce | April 8, 2008
Reason #4:
They’re not entrepreneurs!!!
Many Christians wonder why they’re broke, but they don’t have, nor are they developing, an entrepreneurial mentality.
I like to think of God as “entrepreneurial”. After all, the word “entrepreneur” comes from the French, meaning “to undertake,” or “to get started”. Didn’t God do that when He spoke things that “never were” into existence (see Genesis 1)?
If we are to be imitators of God our Father as little children are to their fathers, we need to imitate Him (Ephesians 5:1) and be entrepreneurial, creating things from that which never was! (How do you do this? Keep reading this blog daily to find out!)
This Christian idea of entrepreneurship is linked to freedom:
Are you a slave? Don’t let that worry you-but if you get a chance to be free, take it. - 1 Cor. 7:21 (NLT - emphasis mine)
If you get a chance to be free from being a slave employee, take it: it’s not a suggestion; it’s a command! Why does God use the Apostle Paul to say this in His word? I believe that one of the reasons is that He wants us to know that entrepreneurs overall make more than those who are employees, and so they can contribute more monetarily to the Kingdom!
We need to take those dreams and visions that God has given us for businesses and ministries, and turn them into entreprenurial realities! (How do you do this? Keep reading this blog daily to find out!)
But in the 25 years that I’ve been a Christian, I have never heard any pastor or preacher, or teacher for that matter (except for myself) talk about this verse. Oh, but we talk about jobs…”Lord, please give us jobs.”
What about, “Lord, please give us businesses and ministries?”

Wow! Great post Bruce. This is so true. Unfortunately, many people believe that entrepreneurship is reserved for just an elite few; nothing could be more wrong. Continue with this message. It’s SO needed, particularly among believers.

“…many people believe that entrepreneurship is reserved for just an elite few; nothing could be more wrong.”
Thanks for mentioning this, Dianna. Yes it’s sad that many Americans don’t know (let alone Christians) that America was founded on Free Enterprise: the concept that everyone is free to enterprise, that is to start your own business (or ministry!).

[…] As was stated in Part 5, most Christians don’t realize that we are commanded to, if we can, be “free”. […]
